Event Details:

“Diversity” has become something of a dirty word in the USA due to tokenism, quotas and some dubious training practices. This workshop will help both enthusiastic and skeptical participants to understand what Cultural Competence is all about and why it is so important for their organization, their team and themselves. They will then learn why and how different people work and communicate in different ways and begin practicing how to interact with them more effectively in future.

Course Objectives:

Participants will:

1. Learn what it means to be culturally competent in the non-profit and other environments

2. Understand how their and others’ linguistic expression and communication styles are influenced by a mixture of national, organizational, professional and individual cultural values

3. Appreciate the different ways in which people prefer to communicate across cultures, with particular reference to face-to-face. phone and e-mail communication

4. Begin practicing how to communicate with people from other countries and cultures more effectively in future
